HI, I’m Grace McC(onnell)! I’m a freelance photographer serving in Cleveland OH, and Pittsburgh, PA. I have my Bachelor’s of Art in Studio Art from Baldwin Wallace University.

Originally an oil painter, I fell in love with photography my sophomore year of college. I’ve been shootin’ people and places ever since.

I specialize in headshots of all kinds, but I enjoy engagement sessions and lifestyle portraits (families, branding sessions, children.) Basically I’m just a big fan of people and capturing their most precious moments in life!

Valerie Lesiak“Once upon a time there was a little girl who loved to draw.

Being told that there were no jobs where one could draw,

she attended Baldwin-Wallace to become an art teacher.

Upon graduation, she found there were no art teaching jobs

around where she lived, so she applied for a position at

American Greetings where she got hired by an ex-teacher. It was

there her adventure in greeting card world began in art and design.

She worked with many talented people including Tom Wilson,

the creator fo Ziggy, as well as worked on many creative projects

including Care Bears. From conventional to cute and humorous

designing, greeting cards filled her world for 39 years.

Then she retired and a new journey began.”

The Berea Arts Fest will have its What’s Cooking? Garden Party and Food Fest from 7-10 p.m. June 14. The event takes place along the Grand Street brick walkway on Baldwin Wallace University’s campus between Seminary and Beech streets.

“This is the first event BW is having along this walkway,” said Rich Cihlar, Berea Arts Fest event coordinator. “We are setting a precedent here. We just want people to enjoy the food, art, music and atmosphere and stroll around that area.”

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

The outdoor party highlights some of the local restaurants, chefs and the arts. Food will be abundant, with a taste from each restaurant.

Pam Kruger said there will be food, wine, beer, music and lots of artists featured throughout the night, and the artists’ works will be raffled in a Chinese drawing. At least 28 pieces of art are available.

Restaurants include Berea Union Depot Taverne, Tree Huggers Caf , Rosander’s, Caf Ah Roma, Bucci’s, Tony Ks, Eastland Inn, Perk-cUP! Caf , Delta Blue, Romeo’s Pizza, Mulligans, Taqueria Junction, Le Bistro Du Beaujolais and Cornerstone, the latter providing beverages. The Cats on Holiday band will perform throughout the night.

The event is a fundraiser for the Berea Arts Fest set for Sept. 8 at Coe Lake.

“Cooking is an art,” Kruger said. “We have some wonderful chefs here in Berea and the near area who will bring some wonderful creations to the event — just like the artists, some who are known internationally.”

Cihlar said artists such as Shepard Fairey, the contemporary graphic artist and illustrator known for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign “Hope” poster, will have a piece available to win through the drawing.

“Others are people who are very active in the Cleveland scene and are top-notch artists,” he said. “I expect most, if not all, to be there with their artwork.”

He said blending this type of event is perfect for those who are intimidated by the gallery scene.

“A gallery is only art on walls. This is art on the tables with food, drinks and entertainment. If you don’t happen to win a piece, at least you are introduced to the various artists and may want to purchase something now that you know them.”

Tickets are available at bereaartsfest.org and clicking on the event poster, or at eventbrite.com. They may also be purchased through Kruger, 440-234-0300, and at the door.

The event will held inside BW’s Strosacker Hall in case of inclement weather.
