Featured Artists – Shari & Cathy Strauss

9 Aug

Sharie & Cathy Strauss – Paper Cutz began as a “craft therapy night” and just kept growing. Artist, Shari Escott, has always had a love for art and design. Her first image was an owl and she didn’t stop there. After our first show at the Cleveland FLEA, we knew we had something special. Here we are four years later, still going strong and loving every minute of it. Our favorite part of doing what we do is working shows and meeting our customers. Everyone is so kind, warm and complimentary. Thank you for enjoying and appreciating what we do. We appreciate you and hope you will keep checking back for new prints and note cards.

Featured Artist – Denise Donaldson

I’m Denise Donaldson, the artist behind Sticks and Glitter.  In 2011, my husband Rick and I started a jewelry design studio to showcase our combined talents.  Rick excels at putting together eye-catching color palettes, while I have a feel for stones and metals.  This site will show you some of our regularly changing portfolio, describe the services we offer, and give you the opportunity to purchase our work.  As artists, we’re always excited to be part of new and exciting projects!

For each of us, jewelry is an expression of our creativity.  To keep our designs fresh and interesting, we continually seek to expand into different techniques and materials.  We like to find unusual uses for standard components and to search for the “wow” elements that make our pieces stand out.  My first love was semi-precious stones, and they remain at the center of much of my work.  I use other materials as well, including several types of metals, fused glass, and even fibers.  Rick focuses on crystals, furnace glass, lampwork glass, and similar materials.  We consider our work to be earth centered.  In our studio overlooking the huge old trees of our back yard, we hammer, bend, string, rivet, wrap, emboss, solder, and otherwise contrive to produce signature pieces, while our dogs snuggle at our feet and our cats preside over the work table.  Our process is very personal and individual; our necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and pendants are made one at a time, not churned out in mass quantities.

In addition to our original design jewelry pieces for the general public, we do custom and commission work.  We can craft a necklace to match a new outfit or dream up a stunning piece for a special occasion.  Our custom skills also extend to repairs.  We can re-string that necklace your grandmother gave you, attach a new clasp, or handle other kinds of repairs so that you can wear everything in your jewelry box.  Whether we’re designing just for you or fixing something you already have, we provide reliable, timely service with professionalism and attention to detail.

Please browse through our pages and see what we’re all about.  Each piece we make is one of a kind, created for the wearer who will appreciate it, the person who doesn’t want to simply look like everyone else.  Feel free to leave us your comments and suggestions or to ask what we can do to make you sparkle!

Every Year at the BereArtday Artwalk is More than People Expect

1 May

BereArtday is two art shows in one. The Berea Arts Fest Artwalk and the Berea Fine Arts Club Mayshow. Both are located on the triangle in downtown Berea, May 20, 2017. Every year some 40 artists on the triangle and another 12 artists take up locations in storefront locations around downtown Berea.

Guests set off to see great art but end up with much more then they expected.  Walking Berea’s historic downtown and meeting artists is just the start. Soon guests realize they meet shop owners, neighbors and other enthusiasts like themselves.  Before they know it, guests end up with a sweet treat from Dicks or Rocket Cow from the Cornerstone.  Don’t know what we’re talking about?  you will, when you come to the BereArtday, May 20, 2017.  10am-5pm.  Free and open to all.  See you there.
