Every Year at the BereArtday Artwalk is More than People Expect

1 May

BereArtday is two art shows in one. The Berea Arts Fest Artwalk and the Berea Fine Arts Club Mayshow. Both are located on the triangle in downtown Berea, May 20, 2017. Every year some 40 artists on the triangle and another 12 artists take up locations in storefront locations around downtown Berea.

Guests set off to see great art but end up with much more then they expected.  Walking Berea’s historic downtown and meeting artists is just the start. Soon guests realize they meet shop owners, neighbors and other enthusiasts like themselves.  Before they know it, guests end up with a sweet treat from Dicks or Rocket Cow from the Cornerstone.  Don’t know what we’re talking about?  you will, when you come to the BereArtday, May 20, 2017.  10am-5pm.  Free and open to all.  See you there.

Performing Artists – Untie the Knots

11 Aug

“Untie The Knots” debuted at SPACES this year as a quartet, and will be on stage at the Berea Arts Fest, Sept 11th 2016.  Today you will witness an octet of musicians improvising on-the-spot without any prior instruction or rehearsal.  Though all of the musicians have collaborated with one or more others in the group sometime in the past, not one has performed all together…, and some have not even met before.  Though the creative process may get “knotted” at times, listen as this body of artists “Untie The Knots”.

This quartet of multi-instrumentalists will be using guitar, percussion, melodicas, saxes, flute, bass, bansuri, accordion, recorder, udu, and other various noisemakers to perform a set of improvised music. Untie the Knots features:

CHRISTIE ANDERSON (Kent) is a versatile multi-instrumentalist musician active in the Kent area’s sacred and secular communities. She performs with the Celtic Clan, Fallow Time Folk Orchestra, Peace Pipers recorder ensemble, Tone Chimers hand chime ensemble, and the BLK SKWRL AKKORDION CLUB.

BRAD BOLTON (Kent) has been performing with guitar and bass for the past 50 years in seminal rock, jazz, and blues bands. More recently he’s been a part of the 15pc all-star avant-chamber music ensemble Trepanning Trio, adding delightful, whimsical toys and homemade instruments to his arsenal of sound.

JOEL ELVERY (CLE) is an adult onset musician who plays mandolin and other small instruments with Trepanning Trio, and upright bass with the new free improvisation duo Your Feckless Squares with Todd Masuda.

TOM LEMPNER (CLE) plays various wind instruments and tinkers with percussive toys, with a focus on saxophones. Tom teaches at Baldwin-Wallace University Conservatory of Music and Cleveland State University and is a full-time Music Therapist working with troubled youth. He is also a member of Trepanning Trio.

Featured Musicians – IN2ATIVE

8 Sep

in2ativeIN2ATIVE – We want to emotionally connect
with our audience while breaking the boundaries of two historically conservative and classical instruments.

With their music quoted as “Hot, and Edgy,” In2ative’s vibe is anything but traditional. Although classically trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music, this avant-garde duo specializes in a fusion of musical genres, combining the street rhythms of beat-box with more contemporary improvisational forms, quite “out of the box.” The combination and blending of musical styles, mixed with jamming high energy and beat-boxing swing creates a product that is sweet but also very passionate. All of their pieces are original compositions, inspired by events and experiences, both past and present.

In2ative will be performing from 11:30a-12:30pm at the Berea Arts Fest, Sunday September 13th, 2015

Performing this year at the BAF: The Bit Shifterz

25 Aug

bitThe Bit Shifterz are an eclectic two piece act from Cleveland Ohio. Featuring heavy synthesized bass lines and floating melodies influenced by EDM, with hints of blues, and a touch of heavy metal. Inspired by bands such as STS9, Big Gigantic, and Lotus . You’ll hear that new age dance music vibe, with a much heavier take on live performance jamtronica than you may be used to!!
